Dr Giorgos Fitsialos

Founder and CEO of DNAlogy
Expert for the Greek Court Authorities and at the International Criminal Court in matters of Biological Material Profiling and DNA Analysis

Giorgos Fitsialos has a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis in France, where all his studies were completed, as well as his scientific work (with scholarships by the French Ministries of Health and Research), most of which has been carried out at the INSERM (The French National Institute of Health and Medical Research). He then collaborated with the most important scientific team in DNA profiling in France at the IGNA (Institut Génétique Nantes Atlantique) laboratory, where he was specialised in state-of-the-art technologies in DNA profiling and detection of biological evidence (criminal investigations, civil cases).

In 2009 he returns to Greece bringing with him capital and know-how from France to found the DNAlogy laboratory, the first Greek specialised, private, accredited and internationally recognised laboratory for provision of expert reports in cases where DNA analysis is needed, the so-called “European Centre of Genetics and DNA Profiling”, aiming at covering novel needs in the field of DNA analyses and harmonising Greek practice with European and international standards.

At the same time, he collaborates with the Greek Court Authorities, where he is registered as an Expert for the Court of First Instance and the Office of the Public Prosecutor throughout Greece and he starts aiding Justice in criminal and civil cases. Since 2016 Dr Giorgos Fitsialos has been an Expert with the International Criminal Court in matters of Profiling of Biological Material and DNA Analysis.

As head of the scientific team of the DNAlogy genetic laboratories, applying for the first time in Greece the most advanced scientific technologies, Dr Fitsialos has worked until this day to solve dozens of cases, such as the case of disappearance of Marios Papageorgiou, as presented by the show “Light at the end of the tunnel”, which shocked the country.

Dr Giorgos Fitsialos is a member of the “International Society for Forensic Genetics”, the “Groupe Francophone International Society for Forensic Genetics”, the “European Society of Human Genetics” and a founding member of the“Hellenic Association of Forensic Sciences”.

Regarding teaching, Dr Giorgos Fitsialos has given training seminars in most bar associations in Greece (Bar Association of Athens, Piraeus, Patras, Larisas, Chania, Kalamata, Corfu, Kavala, etc) and in many abroad (Cyprus, Europe, Africa), to many jurist associations (“e-themis” Greek Jurist Association”, Greek Association of Criminal Law Lawyers, etc), while he is the author of various works in forensic genetics (Karantzali et al. The effect of FBI CODIS Core STR Loci expansion on familial DNA database searching.  Forensic Sci Int Genet. 2019 Nov;43:102129).
