Paternity DNA Test for Legal Use

The Court Experts of DNAlogy can perform Paternity DNA tests for legal use, which can be used as evidence in the Courts and Public Authorities in Greece and abroad in cases of recognition of children, contested paternity, migration/family reunification, issue of residence permits, issue/correction of birth certificates, inheritance claims or any other legal purpose.

Paternity DNA Test for Legal Use - Procedure

The following procedures followed to perform a Paternity DNA Test with Legal Validity:

  • Consent of participants: To carry out a DNA test with legal validity, all persons involved must consent to having their biological material analysed.
  • Sample collection - Identification of participants by the DNAlogy Court Expert:

Choice 1:  Sample Collection and Identification of participants are carried out in our laboratories by the DNAlogy Court Experts, who identify the participants and collect their biological material (buccal swab).

Choice 2:  The procedure is carried out remotely through “Online Sample Collection Protocol” by our collaborating Lawyers, Physicians or Organisations (NGOs) under the supervision of DNAlogy Court Experts via webcam. The biological material is collected using the DNAlogy-Legal_Patrotis-kit® for collection of saliva samples, which is sent out to our partners and is returned to the laboratories following the instructions.

  • Analysis of Samples: Sample analysis is carried out by the accredited DNAlogy laboratories using advanced robotic systems and only validated and accepted protocols and methodologies.
  • Expert Report: The official Expert Report is drafted containing the laboratory results and the scientific conclusions, signed by 2 independent Court Experts for any legal use.

Recognition of Child / Contested Paternity

Paternity DNA Test for the recognition of a child

Recognition of paternity concerns children born outside of marriage.

Following an action for recondition of paternity lodged by the mother or the father, the Court Authorities request the establishment of paternity through DNA analysis by a Court Expert that is named in the list of the Court of First Instance, a process that requires much time and money.

To expedite the procedure and save on costs, the participants can seek the help of DNAlogy Court Experts (who are named in the official list of Court Experts of the country’s Courts of First Instance) to carry out a Paternity DNA Test with Legal Validity before this is requested by the Court, in order to include it in the case file. The test includes the analysis of a sample from the child, its mother and the tested father.

DNA testing for contested paternity

Contested paternity concerns children born outside of marriage, when the alleged father is contested.

Following an action for contested paternity lodged by the mother, the alleged father or the biological father, the Court Authorities request the establishment of paternity of the alleged father as to the child through DNA analysis by a Court Expert that is named in the list of the Court of First Instance, a process that requires much time and money.

To expedite the procedure and save on costs, the participants can seek the help of DNAlogy Court Experts (who are named in the official list of Court Experts of the country’s Courts of First Instance) to carry out a Paternity DNA Test with Legal Validity before this is requested by the Court, in order to include it in the case file. The test includes the analysis of a sample from the child, its mother and the alleged father. The participation of the biological father is additionally advised to validate paternity.
